the calgary firefighters association is affiliated as local 255 of the international association of fire fighters (iaff), representing more than 1400 members of the calgary fire department. local 255 is the second largest iaff local in canada and is comprised of firefighters, apparatus technicians and maintenance staff. organized in 1917 as local 19 of the federal fire fighters union, calgary firefighters affiliated with the iaff on october 4, 1923. the calgary firefighters association has grown and evolved over the years, but our mandate remains the same. the following preamble from our constitution and bylaws reflects the core values of our organization. 'strength through united action, guided by intelligence is the hallmark of trade union organization. such unity is believed essential for the mutual protection and advancement of the interests and general welfare of the members of the calgary firefighters association, the objects of which shall be: to organize all members of the association, to secure just compensation for their services and equitable settlement of their grievances, to promote the establishment of just and reasonable working conditions, to place the members of the association on a higher plane of skill and efficiency, to promote harmonious relations between labour and management, and to cultivate friendship and fellowship amongst association members.' the calgary firefighters association has proudly represented the men and women of the calgary fire department for more than 90 years. we will build on the solid foundation established by our forbearers, always respecting tradition as we embrace the future in our enduring effort to improve the quality of life for our members and their families. we hope you will find our web site informative and insightful. have a look around and if you have any questions or comments, please contact the calgary firefighters association office. thank you calgary firefighters association iaff local 255
