opening doors is a free community leadership program for people who live, work or play in the inner and outer east regions of melbourne, australia. running for the first time in 2009, opening doors was created as a direct response to growing evidence around the impacts of social isolation on peoples’ health and wellbeing. as a leadership program, our philosophy is simple - we believe every community has strengths and assets, and that every community member has talents and gifts to share. our program is rooted strongly in the asset-based and co-design approaches to community development. every year, opening doors trains more than 40 community members to take the lead in their local community. running over six months, our leaders experience innovative workshops in emotional health, strengths-based leadership, project development, co-design theory, public speaking, grant writing, creating an incorporated association, and much more. since 2009, we have been proud to assist in the creation of: - more than 200 graduates who have the skills, knowledge, networks and confidence to create lasting change in their communities - more than 120 innovative community projects which promote social inclusion and community connectedness - an estimated 60,000 people who are now connected with their communities in new and meaningful ways the opening doors program currently runs annually in melbourne’s inner east (monash, boroondara, whitehorse and manningham) and outer east (knox, maroondah and the yarra ranges). if you would like to apply, find out more, or are interested in bringing opening doors to your community, please contact opening doors coordinator alex mills on (03) 8822 8327 / 0448 308 052, or at amills@linkhc.org.au. opening doors - a community leadership program for social inclusion.
