mayn [mʌin] is a new amsterdam-based fashion label created by the award-winning designer, maja podrug. the label is founded in today’s world that acknowledges the need for true innovators to come forward, overcoming ever increasing social pressures and embracing technology in our daily wear. before studying fashion design, maja graduated in art history – a discipline that marks true, creative minds, which, inspite of everything, persist in rethinking and provoking the conventional. that knowledge is reflected in mayn’s efforts to challenge the commands of menswear and womenswear, materials and cuts, times and trends and identity of the garment itself. exploration of sculptural and architectural formative principles is often at the core of mayn’s designs, resulting in innovative cuts and adaptive features, which encourage further creative expressions on behalf of the end user. while being responsibly aware of enclothed cognition (clothes effects the way you think and act), mayn’s aim is to motivate the true originators and give them one extra layer of confidence to rethink and contribute something new to our surroundings, by imprinting a sense of newness and vigour. “as makers, i believe we have a responsibility to pursue and support mindfulness and innovation. to be the vanguard of positive progress. taking the easy way could not only be stagnant, but wasteful and harmful in the long run.” [maja]
